The Illegitimates #6 Review

Can the Illegitimates defeat Dannikor and save their mothers? Read on to find out.

The official description from IDW:

The climax of the Illegitimates first adventure is here! As the team faces evil on two fronts, not to mention the heart-breaking betrayal at the hands of a loved one, can this team of newbies save the world and their mothers? Or will they be faced with making a devastating choice that will end them before they get a chance to begin? All this, and a zombie horde? What are you waiting for?!

Illigitamates #6 variantThe Illegitimates comes to an end as the group finally face off against Dannikor and the traitor Miss Heatherpence. In an action packed turn of events our heroes are faced with mistrust issues whilst the fait of their mothers lives hangs in the balance. The reasons behind Miss Heatherpence traitorous acts are also revealed as despite being slightly obvious in hindsight they still prove intriguing to say the least.

Taran Killam and Marc Andreyko produced a truly stunning script with this issue ending the series on a high. The way that the duo manage to give a dramatic and exciting turn of events whilst keeping an aura of mistrust and questionability really appealed to me. The suspense tone to the issue also proved very captivating as along with the intense dialogue it added tons of depth. Killam and Andreyko don’t however end the series entirely as though this story gets a definitive conclusion the Illegitimates themselves seem to only be starting.

Kevin Sharpe‘s artwork has been fabulous throughout this series and if the series does continue I hope he stays along for the ride. In this issue Sharpe’s eye-catching layouts prove as energetic as ever allowing the fast paced story to flow smoothly. He also gives tremendous depth and emotion to the issue with the intense character expressions as whether it’s the mistrust or anguish it adds tenfold to the realism. Combine this with explosive action and vivid colours (from Peter Pantazis) and you get visuals that compliment the story perfectly.

The Illegitimates ends on a high as the group of siblings make one last stand against Dannikor. In explosive fashion with tremendous tension this is a wonderful end to this series and I for one can’t wait to see what comes next. Highly recommended.
