Does this yarn carry any worth? Read on to find out.

The official description from Zenescope:

In the aftermath of ASCENSION, Zeus’s family has been rocked to its core by a tragic loss. As the Dark Horde joins with an old foe, will any of the gods who have fought for good stand against the coming threat? Or will their long legacies end in tragedy?

GFT Godstorm-Age of Darkness 1_Variant CoverThe creative thinkers over at the home of the Grimm Fairy Tales have once again proven their mantle in an expected but splendid way. The Godstorm franchise has always been an interesting segment for them but this one-shot takes the aftermath of another mini-series into account and through that it instantly caught my attention. To put it simply: this is no doubt one of the best comics I’ve read this year.

Joe Brusha and Ralph Tedesco combine forces with script writer Pat Shand in this journey that focuses squarely on the titanic myths and legends that the majority of the known world have had at least some familiarity with. We follow the exploits of a main character that’s seen his share of bloodshed but is now in the process of embracing something beyond what he’s known. And that right there is the soul of the text which instantly spoke to me, an apparent divinity trying to find humanity in an age that’s full of darkness.

The artwork by Noah Salonga and Andre Meloni perfectly suites the literature. It’s a plain but solid visual component that complements each player with enough innate personality to nail the right cadence. It’s through the use of thick and thin pencil strokes that this Olympic struggle comes to a bit of a head as the narrative feels like a halfway point between Ascension and Hercules Payne. Add in the colors done by Erick Arciniega and the feature feels a little more complete.

Grimm Fairy Tales presents Godstorm: Age of Darkness One-Shot is exactly what this franchise needs, especially as this universe makes ready for events that seem destined to shake it to its core. And so it comes highly recommended.
