Should fans be excited or hysterical about this arc? Read on to find out.

The official description from IDW:

Louis Tully was an average accountant until the day that Vinz Clortho—Keymaster of Gozer the Traveler—possessed him in service of the end the world. Now the news says New York is at the center of Sumerian shenanigans again, and Louis should want nothing more than to steer clear… but something is drawing him back. Is it morbid curiosity or something more sinister? “Mass Hysteria,” the 30th Anniversary celebration, continues here!

Ghostbusters 15_Preview PageI’m going to admit that this release is exactly why I love this interpretation of the franchise. With their event underway the creative team has successfully crafted a believable narrative that pays homage to the movies without feeling like a retread of old ideas. That’s what makes the whole thing work, so my fellow fanboys and fangirls if you love this property you need to pick this up!

Erik Burnham kills it with yet another script that takes new and old characters into the firing range of an ancient threat, Tiamat. The goddess of chaos is not bound by the same rules of her brother, Gozer the Gozerian, but she’s causing some havoc all the same. Her actions have drawn in various players from across the history of the iconic title. From the Ghostbusters to Louis Tully and Dana Barrett there’s a lot to love, as smart dialogue carries this with a competent author that knows his stuff.

The illustrative side of the experience is largely handled by the always engaging Dan Shoening. His pencil strokes brilliantly translates the core of the cast without having to be a one-to-one conversion of the established style of the films. Add in the colors crafted by Luis Antonio Delgado and we’re left with something that’s downright dynamic and eye-catching. To sum up: this is the caliber I expect from these talents, as the visual component pops off the page.

Ghostbusters #15 from beginning to end is a thrill-ride with enough nostalgia and substance to win over a new and even dedicated audience. Recommended.
