THE DEVILERS #1 Review

Do demons really exist or is it just a figment of your imagination? Read on to find out.

The official description from Dynamite:

When the world is under siege from the pits of hell, it’s up to the DEVILERS to set things right. Seven of the world’s greatest exorcists pit themselves against Satan’s army, and all of creation hangs in the balance. From the writer of THE BUNKER, THE ULTIMATES, and I, VAMPIRE comes a horror fueled adventure through hell itself.

Devilers01CoveIncenSilvestrHow would you react if you had the ability to see stuff that other people couldn’t? Would you seek mental health advice? Brush it off as a fantasy? or would you just accept it for what it was. Well that’s the decision that Father Malcolm has to make with him deciding to use logic and facts to disprove most demon stories. He can’t however afford to live in denial for long as when demons start roaming the Earth he’s thrown into a group of exorcists who are tasked with defeating Satan’s army.

Joshua Hale Fialkov does a fantastic job of kicking off this series with Dynamite’s Creators Unleashed line being a intriguing turning point for the company. Fialkov also delivers what every #1 should, giving a terrific introduction to our main characters as well as building up their objective. He also manages to spice things up with the subtle yet intense way that he utilises the demon theme with their build-up being very suspenseful and their entrance being very explosive.

The artwork on this story is just as impressive with former Sherlock Holmes artist Matt Triano giving a realistic look to the series. He however impresses most with his utilisation of shading with it giving a dynamic feel to the events that transpired. In addition to this Triano also delivers a gruesome look to the demons with them adding intensity to the visuals. Triano is also joined by Mark Roberts whose wonderful colours add a vivid overtone. We also get an astounding regular cover from Jock and a fabulous incentive cover from Marc Silvestri.

The Devilers is a fabulous and unique addition to the horror genre with Joshua Hale Fialkov introducing a thrilling tale. Highly recommended.
