The Crow: Pestilence #3 Review

Will Salvador survive or will the Crow die twice? Read on to find out.

The official description from IDW:

As Salvador, led by The Crow, exacts his vengeance, the gang starts to push back…and Santa Muerte appears.

The Crow Pestilence #3The Crow: Pestilence takes a step in the right direction with this issue as following the slightly disappointing last entry to this mini-series it’s nice to see that it’s not a one-shot wonder. The story takes some tremendous twists through the issue with the character focus and action working in harmony opposed to either overpowering the other.

Frank Bill delivers a script that very nearly matches the opening issue with it having a very deep and dramatic feel to it. I especially enjoyed how Bill emphasised on who Salvador was with his killers taking a erratic reaction to this “ghost”. He also gave some interesting and frankly shocking developments with the premise of what will happen in the conclusion having me hooked. Added to this there’d also be the introduction of an interesting adversary with Salvador seeming virtually helpless at times.

Drew Moss‘ art continues to grow on me with his gritty style being simply awesome. The way that he allows the brutality of the action to flow in an intense fashion is really eye catching with it flowing with excitement. Moss also shows the characters shock and emotion brilliantly as with them realising who Salvador really is there needed to be some sort of fear and Moss showed all this perfectly. We also once again get a spectacular cover from Crow creator James O’Barr which as expected captures the symbolism of the character perfectly.

The Crow: Pestilence takes a positive turn in it’s penultimate issue and if the conclusion follows suit this will overall have been a brilliant series. Recommended.
