Official Description:bb2

“Ambushed while protecting an important foreign dignitary, Matt Price, a.k.a. Brain Boy, finds himself wrapped up in political intrigue when an assassination plot that could derail a key United Nations conference sets Brain Boy on a collision course with a man whose mental powers rival his own! Get ready for a psychic smackdown over the streets of New York City!”

So what happens when the person that you have to defend is the one that is trying to kill you? Well that’s what happens in the new Brain Boy comic. It seems that our hero has more work cut out for him, then he originally thought because El Presidente is one bad guy. The scenes, that reveal his past, in the issue about him will not only make you shudder but really hate this guy. I won’t ruin too much but I had to put this in there because it’s important for the review on the writing and art.

Okay, so I have to say I wasn’t sure about this one. I thought maybe Brain Boy was going to be some lame kid that was playing secret agent but, gladly, I was wrong. The writing for this is just fantastic. The big showdown between Agent Price and his former protectee, really brings forth the writing by Fred Van Lente. The way that the writer weaves past and present during the battle is so effortless and smooth that it’s a natural occurrence. It feels right and that is something that everyone’s writing should have.

R. B. Silva’s art is something that we can’t forget. The art in this issue compliments and drives this issue of Brain Boy. The blending of colors and action works well with the story. Personally, I don’t think that it’s easy for someone to visualize a battle of telekinetic powers. However, Silva does so very well. The way that he personifies  the different battle techniques is quite fantastic and well worth looking at.

Overall, I highly recommend this issue. It’s fun, exciting, and more. I can’t wait to see what happens next. I give it a 5 out of 5.
