2000AD #1889 Review

2000AD_1889A small change-up in the the line-up this week makes for an interesting 2000AD #1889 issue, which comes with Judge Dredd, Brass Sun, Tharg’s 3rillers, Future Shocks and Sinister Dexter. Let’s take a look at each one in more detail.

First up is Judge Dredd and the second part of Rob William’s unique take on Mega City One. William’s writes the story well, with a great sense of pacing, although it feels less of an impact compared to the opening half last week. Still, there’s an underlying sense of humor at work and it goes well with the colorful artwork of Chris Weston, with colors from Michael Downing.

Next up is more Brass Sun. Ian Edginton continues to offer a fantastic script that never stays in one spot for too long. Full of it’s usual charm and wit, this is a continued welcome return for the series, complete with the iconic artwork from Inj Culbard.

After this is the second part in the current Tharg’s 3rillers, where Guy Adams begins to flesh out his story more. The plot makes much more sense now and feels very well refined. Visually, P J Holden’s art work gets straight to the point and helps to illustrate Adam’s world with plenty of natural color.

We also have a Future Shocks this issue, with a fun little script from Eddie Robson. Robson easily gets into his strive and the plot has a strong sense of character, which helps make up for it’s bland office setting. Visually, Nick Dyer does what he can to flesh out this world but, with such a brief story, there’s only so much he can do.

Finally, we end this issue with the start of more Sinister Dexter. Dan Abnett returns with a new story that doesn’t take long to enter into violence and chaos. It’s full of the title’s trademark charm and humor along the way as well. While it’s definitely looked better, Jake Lynche’s black and white visuals do an okay job at representing the world of Generica.
