Mars Attacks Judge Dredd #2 Review

Do you like little green men and the mafia?

Official Description:

It’s all-out gang war as the Martians help muscle in on as much territory as possible. Meanwhile, Dredd brings in one of the Mafia dons for interrogation, and what Judge Anderson discovers sends chills down her spine. And what’s inside the mysterious sphere found in the Mafia nightclub?

Well, here it is another issue of Mars Attacks Judge Dredd. I have to say that I was very disappointed in this issue. Personally, I don’t think that the description tells the whole truth which makes it sound more exciting than it is, especially, the part of Judge Anderson. I don’t feel that it was that big of a reveal. I’m not trying to be too harsh on this issue but it wasn’t that great to me. The only redeeming part was the ending when someone died. Don’t worry, I won’t reveal who.

I think that part of the problem with Al Ewing’s writing in this particular issue, was that it was too slow. I feel that it didn’t have enough happening or enough to move the story along enough for it to be the great issue that it could have been. Instead, it was like I was on a roller coaster waiting for the big hill but it never came. Knowing that, I am sure that it will be better in future issues but this one, just didn’t do it for me.

On the other hand, John McCrea’s art was fantastic. I did enjoy his renditions of the words that Ewing had written. The panels flowed nicely through each other with his art. From beginning to end, I was enthralled by way McCrea portrayed the story. I, especially, liked when Judge Anderson used her physic powers. He was spot one with the illustrations with that.

Overall, the story for this issue was alright but nothing that I would write home about. The art was a redeeming quality but I don’t think it was enough to save this issue. I think that future issues will be better. I feel that this issue was meh.

Also, I hated the character where you couldn’t really understand what he was saying. At least when Ennis did it in Preacher, you could understand what Arseface was saying. It took me out of the story to be quite honest.
