Prophecy #4 Review

Can this rag-tag team of heroes hope to do anything to prevent the end of the world?  Should you even care?  Read on to find out.

The official description from Dynamite:

The end is nigh! The end of the world, that is, now that sorcerer Kulan Gath has summoned powerful Mayan avatars of destruction to reduce the planet to ashes. Earth’s only hope is a motley band of warriors, including Red Sonja, Vampirella, Dracula, Pantha, Herbert West the Reanimator and more, who must stand against Gath’s minions. It’s a contest of champions, with the very survival of our world depending on the outcome. Writer Ron Marz and artist Walter Geovani continue Dynamite’s crossover to end all crossovers!

When the end of the world going down, it’s nice to know that no matter what universe you’re dealing with in comic books there are always heroes willing to risk everything for complete strangers.  And on that level this series succeeds in offering a crowd pleasing effort, that stretches itself a bit thin in order to elevate all the various franchises’ attached to this epic adventure.

Ron Marz handles the script quite well as the focus of the saga shifts a bit, as our team splits up to combat the dangerous problems around the world.  The series writer manages to give each of these characters a moment to shine while introducing another excellent but somewhat expected guest into the fray.  It’s a fun read that’s a bit light on depth, but the content already established is more than strong enough to carry each proverbial blow to an engaging cliffhanger.

Walter Geovani does an immaculate job on the art in this latest release.  Each panel is lavishly detailed as each and every character gets the appropriate level of attention that they honestly deserve.  You could not have asked for a better cohort in this conundrum of a crossover, as each pencil stroke believably unites these many storied franchises in one singular and coherent narrative.

Prophecy #4 is another very good addition to this exciting event series.  Recommended.
