NEVER ENDING #1 Review

Never Ending Banner

Welcome to Snore Fest 2013!

The official description from Dark Horse:

Fighting crime isn’t superhero Charles Baxter’s main problem—it’s fighting time! Trapped for decades in a superpowered body that never ages but is now driving him insane, Chuck’s only hope for a “permanent cure” is to team up with his archnemesis Archibald Crane. He just needs the evil scientist to stop hitting him first!

Never Ending 1_CThis comic was just flat out boring and made absolutely no sense at all. Granted it gets better later on but it’s a far climb for just “ok.” Written by Adam Knave and D.J. Kirkbride this story opens to a mask less so-so attractive superhero named Chuck. I liked a backhanded jab at super heroes that go by “super this” or “the amazing that” deflating some super egos, it seemed like a solid joke but sadly I don’t think that it was suppose to be intentionally funny.

Our villain was named Archibald , a man that’s a wise looking mad scientist who apparently is the only one who can help Chuck better understand his powers. This comic ask you to fill in a lot of blanks from nothing… like a sadistic madlib. We have no idea why Archibald and Chuck are even fighting in the first place, or what the hell his superpowers even are! I was positive that this must have been an old comic reboot but a quick Google search revealed that this wasn’t the case. How are we suppose to make any sense of this comic with that kind of torched logic?

The art by Robert Love was also boggling, like Chuck wearing Spider-Man’s outfit. They aren’t even trying to hide it! its clearly Spider-Man’s costume, They must of all been sitting around saying “what can we pull out of our asses today?” “Oh look Spider-Man!” The title “Never Ending?” SPOLIER it ends.

This comic is actually a lot of fun to make fun of, so if you’re looking for good laughs or an example of how not make a comic than by all means go pick up Never Ending #1. It won’t disappoint.
