The end to this twisted odyssey is finally here, but does it go out on a high note? Read on to find out.

MINISERIES CONCLUSION

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: A recovering alcoholic, an 8″ tall Jesus, a mummified cat and Satan walk into a bar . . . No? Then check out the final issue of this exceptionally unorthodox series and see how the punchline might not be what you’d expect.

It can be said, readily and proudly, that this was by its very nature a unique experience.  It dealt seriously with the issue of alcoholism in an unorthodox way, by using a cast of confusing but brilliant entities to highlight the struggle.  The man behind this particular bag of crazy brought forth a a hard path, which in the end yielded a story that’s certainly compelling and even worth sharing.

Ted McKeever brings his romp in for a landing, as he uses all the players to properly illuminate Chomsky’s decisions.  At the end of last months issue we saw a giant floating fetus and like the miniature Jesus our protagonist sees fit to have a dialogue.  There’s a lot left unexplained as this wild ride comes to rest but the important aspects of it succeed in trumping any missed opportunities.  The point of it all becomes painfully obvious as the author pushes the our hero to understand that life is not letting go but rather embracing failure and moving forward.  In short: there’s brilliance here but not perfection.

The illustrations done by Ted McKeeveer impress from the first page to the final panel.  This is really one gifted talent, who has the wherewithal to deliver piles of text while complimenting them with some decidedly pertinent features.  He crafts a visual extension of the yarn that flows perfectly with the written word.  And when the author creates something terrifying or a moment of enlightenment he understands the correct formations that this journey requires.

Miniature Jesus #5 brings this oddly interesting saga to a fitting conclusion, though I do wish there would have been more explanations.  Recommended.
