Marvel’s First Animated Movie Will Be…?

Marvel has been rumored to be cooking up a project with Pixar for a while now, and we may have our answer as to who the lucky property will be. It’s not anything anyone expected, and in my opinion that’s a breath of fresh air in our beloved(but honestly somewhat over-saturated) comic book film market.

The franchise heavily rumored to be in the works? Big Hero 6. Here’s what Blue Sky Disney had to say:

Walt Disney Animation‘s upcoming “Big Hero 6,” about a heroic superhero team, is currently an open writing assignment, with no scribe currently attached to the project. The film will be produced by Kristina Reed.

The slot that is set for 2014 has been set aside for Don Hall’s project. Don Hall is the director of “Big Hero 6.” In fact, he’s the one that pitched the idea to Lasseter, who liked his take on the subject and approved it for development. Now, it’s not fully green lit. The project is story boarded and has been deemed strong enough to tentatively put in the production line.

So what the hell is Big Hero 6? Well, they are an odd, yet endearing, Japanese superhero team which first appeared in Alpha Flight back in 1998, but have gone on to have their own adventures, most recently giving an embattled Spider-man some assistance a few months back in his Ends of the Earth storyline. Sure Marvel has plenty of other well-know characters they could be focusing on, but we don’t want them to throw all their best at us in a few short years do we? Nope. I, for one, am looking forward to this, as with Pixar involved it’s bound to be a success.

Take a look at their roster below. You may recognize a few names, and one in particular who is said to be the villain in the upcoming Wolverine film. To what studio do Sunfire and Silver Samurai belong? Both Marvel and Fox, it would seem.

Baymax
Ebon Samurai
GoGo Tomago
Hiro Takachiho
Honey Lemon
Sunpyre
Silver Samurai
