Marvel Confirms Venom is Cancelled: Venom Will Eat Their Brains!

Marvel has confirmed that Venom’s ongoing series will be cancelled in October with issue #42.  Damn, this kind of sucks.  The series features a decent portrayal of the recovering alcoholic, Flash Thompson, trying to stay sober, dealing with daddy issues caused by his alcoholic father, being in a relationship and working as a government sanctioned superhero.  It was originally written by Rick Remender, but Cullen Bunn took over with issue #23.

Also suspiciously absent from Marvel’s November 2013 solicitations is Captain Marvel.  It would be an absolute shame if that series was cancelledCaptain Marvel is a well written series(by Kelly Sue DeConnick!) starring a strong female superhero who wears a costume that is functional to fight crime in (Most comic heroines’ costumes consist of a bathsuit that gives an instant wedgie and features a boob hole).

In an interview with Marvel.com, Venom writer Cullen Bunn states “The final issue is very personal to me for a number of reasons that we can discuss once it’s been published.”  He promises that “Flash and his symbiote have a heart to heart… (Flash) even starts to wonder if he’s been bullying the symbiote all this time.”

The storyline will “weave in elements that we’ve seen from the beginning: Flash’s struggle with alcoholism; his relationship with his dad; his injuries. All these things have made him who he is. He’s a screw up and a bully and a guy who is just one step away from really ruining his life and the lives of everyone around him.”

The issue will continue to tell the origin of Mania, the newest symbiote- Flash’s teenaged neighbor Andi.  Bunn says “The final six issues all feature [new character] Mania quite heavily. They are her origin story. Of course, she may not survive her own origin.”

This may be the end of the Venom series for now, but will not be the end of Venom.  He is set to appear in November’s Superior Spider-Man story arc “Darkest Hours,”

How many of y’all are still buying this series?  Are you guys and gals upset about this cancellation?
