Mars Attacks: First Born #2 Review

The new Martian is causing some problems, is it really worth it? Read on to find out more.

Post-invasion, an abandoned earth-born Martian was taken in by Uncle Woody and his blind niece. But the infant isn’t the only Martian still here… and the others are much more warlike, especially when they learn of the baby’s location amidst the human survivors.

Okay, so with earth trying to slowly rebuild itself, a baby Martian is earth Mars-Attacks-First-Born-2-Main-Coverborn and has been brought to the home of our two heroes’. The story continues with some kids finding out about the baby and not knowing exactly what to do because of fear and anger but that is, kind of, side stepped by the actual main part, which is that there are Martians still on earth that are just like the ones that destroyed the earth. It is something that is scary and really has a Jurassic park feel, when the T-Rex just wants their baby but these creatures have more conscious and  have just invaded and killed a lot of people. The issue continues with the Uncle and his niece trying to keep the Martian safe and secret.

The story is an interesting one and the writing has a good idea of where it is going. However, there is something predictable about this issue that really doesn’t reinvent anything, which sucks but the characters are really great. The dynamic between the Uncle and the Niece have some great moments that add to the story and their compassion is nice too.

The art is, also, great. The art has this look and feel that shows some fantastic moments in a hazy fog that really makes you get the feeling that the earth is still in haze after the invasion, which is a nice touch.

Mars Attacks: First Born is an interesting take on the story but is predictable.
