Legend of the Shadow Clan #4 Review

After four issues has the quality of this title started to dip a bit?  Read on to find out.

The official description from Aspen:

Now that Morgan Himura and her family have learned that they’re descendants of a long line of ninja warriors called the Shadow Clan, one would think that their lives would vastly improve. Especially since the Himura siblings seem to be gaining a better understanding of their unique abilities and talents–especially Morgan, who has always excelled at anything she’s put her mind to. But, there’s a reason why the Shadow Clan had been in hiding for centuries–and now that the Himuras are out in the open, their ancient enemy, the Ghost Clan, has wasted no time in tracking them down. Ready or not, today is the day the Ghost Clan takes the fight to the Shadow Clan!

When I first started covering this book, I honestly had no idea that I’d be enjoying the concepts as much as I am.  From the dynamics of this family to the Surf Ninjas (yep I referenced that movie) style of self discovery I am completely sold and this latest issue is no different.

David Wohl pens the script and you could not ask for a more seasoned or competent author to tell this tale. Form the first page to the final panel his words are tempered enough by the action and the pace that you can really see the care he takes with his narrations. That little aspect of the script does a world of good as all the members of the creative team raise the stakes in this rather epic journey.

The art by Cory Smith is absolutely engrossing as he realizes this world while brilliantly using his chaotic and deliberate pencil strokes to push the narrative forward.  His work easily evokes not authenticity necessarily but rather an augmented reality that’s believable enough to not take the audience out of this fantasy.  In short: the illustrations do exactly what they need to.

Legend of the Shadow Clan #4 is another release that’s sure to keep its audience addicted.  Highly recommended.
