As the third volume continues to head toward its conclusion, should we still care what happens to these characters? Read on to find out.

The official description from Marvel:

It’s the flashback issue you’ve all been waiting for: The secret origin of Hit-Girl! Training, first blood, and of course, lots of hugs and positive reinforcement from Big Daddy. Exactly how does little Mindy McCready earn her assassin stripes? Hint: It ain’t by collecting stickers. This issue will be extra-sized for extra awesome!

Kick-Ass 3 6_CRight out of the gate this franchise gave its audience an honest portrayal of heroes that had a basis in reality. It embraced a unique sense of self that brought to life a world that wasn’t ours but wholly theirs. And to the credit of this dedicated creative team, we have an entry that’s sure to gain attention and praise even from fans that might be disenchanted by the wait for this outing.

Mark Millar delivers another quirky script that plays on our own perceptions of people only to have his characters surprise us. There’s a lot worth loving within the confines of this release, from the explanations about Hit-Girl’s early days to a friend finally doing the right thing. But its through the dialogue that we see the meat of these moments, as father figures and crime bosses influence players while this plot twists and turns toward what feels like an imminent but intimate finish.

The art by John Romita Jr. is as stylized and its always been. This talent is a bit divisive in the sense that the average consumer has already formed an opinion regarding his illustrations. For me he captures a cinematic quality without sacrificing a functional vision that incorporates the more basic tendencies of the superhero genre. In short: from beginning to end I loved what I saw. And as a random side note: I can’t wait to see what he does with Superman.

Kick-Ass 3 #6 is a sterling entry in a saga that’s nearing its finale. Fanboys and fangirls who love the franchise need to pick this up as it easily comes recommended.
