Justice League Dark Getting New Team Member

Fan-favorite author Jeff Lemire (Animal Man, Sweet Tooth) revealed some interesting news about upcoming issues of Justice League Dark (which Lemire took over from previous series author Peter Milligan last month) at Charlotte’s Heroes Convention.

At some point in the near future, yet another new member will be joining the team. While Lemire was not yet able to reveal the character’s identity, he hinted that he was using the character with permission from Neil Gaiman.

Gaiman, of course, is the bestselling author of novels like American Gods, Stardust, and Coraline, and previously produced several award-winning series for DC’s Vertigo imprint, including The Sandman and Black Orchid. (A new version of Black Orchid also joined the JLD team in May.)

Lemire went on to say that the upcoming story arc will be titled “The Books of Magic“, which is also the name of a four issue  mini-series Gaiman wrote for Vertigo in 1990 and 1991. That series tells the story of Timothy Hunter, a teenager with the potential to be the world’s greatest magician, but whose allegiance to either good or evil is not yet determined. Several of DC’s notable magic users, including reluctant Justice League Dark member John Constantine, attempt to influence Timothy’s decision.

Justice League Dark #10 comes out this Wednesday, June 27th.
