Jennifer Blood #33 Review

Jennifer Blood Banner

Is it a chapter worth owning, or has this odyssey already run its course? Read on to find out.

The official description from Dynamite:

It seems that Jennifer Blood has gone to ground… Good news for the public, not so good for the news teams desperate to keep the story fresh. One crew, determined to scoop their rivals, decide that if a story can’t be found, maybe they should create their own.

Jennifer Blood 33_CThis opus gets more interesting with each passing issue, in large thanks to this endlessly compelling narrative brought forth by a very talented creative team. Sure there are some very minor rough spots here and there but nothing that prevents this arc from being a must own for any devoted fanboy or fangirl.

This tertiary bit continues in Manchester, but everyone can rest assured that the current series scribe certainly has a plan as he sets up the pieces in this sordid affair.  It’s painfully obvious as Mike Carroll builds up a world full of dangers, betrayals and some light revelations.  From the first page to the final panel I found myself enthralled with what I was reading, sure our primary player may not be the focus here but these new characters are bringing enough wrinkles to the main event to make the cover price worthwhile.  The dialogue is the strongest point, as each verbal barrage left me winded but absolutely excited for what’s coming down the road.

Eman Casallos handles the art and the competent illustrator continues to bring a level of precision and skill that matches the text blow for blow.  Each panel pops off the page with just enough detail to make the senses understand what they’re seeing while avoiding the potential stumble of overburdening them with extrasensory additions.  The bulk of the work on display may not have wowed me beyond what the quality that I’ve come to expect but it absolutely kept pace with what’s come before.

Jennifer Blood #33 continues the tradition of excellence that this franchise and the creative team’s behind it have more than earned on their own merits.  Highly recommended.
