Jennifer Blood #28 Review

With an escape in progress, where does our brutal but brilliant heroine go from here?  Read on to find out.

The official description from Dynamite:

As the manhunt begins, Jen finally comes face-to-face with the man who arranged her “unscheduled release” from prison, and she’s about to learn the true price of her freedom. Has she bitten off more than she can chew …or has he?

The saga of the acclaimed and cursed Jennifer Blood continues here, and after a year of shocking events and gut-wrenching revelations I’m proud to say this series has never looked better.  The creative team is simply firing on all cylinders as they seek to press upon the audience the knowledge that they require in order to understand that our protagonist is set to face down some dire situations complete with deadly foes.

Mike Carroll pens the script and the scribe offers precision as he continues to usher in his era for this outlandish but nonetheless engaging saga.  He’s taken the vigilante out of the frying pan and into the fire, as the woman formerly known as Jessica Blute comes face to face with her supposed benefactors following a rather careful trek through police barricades. The summation of the story feels well put together as it portrays the intricacies of this plot, and despite some of the aspects feeling dangerously paper thin the author finds a way to sell his grand scheme to intrepid audience members.

Once again Kewber Baal handles the art but this time there were some off putting visualizations.  For most of the content it was apparent that the same level of skill one has come to expect from this seasoned talent is indeed present but much to the detriment of the literature there were a couple panels that just seemed to be far too rushed.  To put it simply: faces and bodily forms clashed over negative space.  Overall though the renditions successfully brought fans along for this ride despite these sparse stumbles.

Jennifer Blood #28 is a solid entry that does enough to bring readers in as this new chapter continues.  Recommended.
