It Girl & The Atomics #8 Review

It Girl continues her mission to save Professor Osamu and his device from Night Runner & The Von Harbou family. As expected things start to go downhill for our plucky heroine, will she be able to make it out of the alps in one piece?

Here is the summary from Image:

“THE WORLD IS FLAT,” Conclusion
It Girl is trapped in the Alps trying to rescue a kidnapped scientist from a slippery supervillain, a scary gangster lady, and her two giant robot sons. Is the scientist’s coveted device the secret to getting out alive? It Girl’s just going to have to turn it on and find out!

It Girl finds herself cornered by Mama Harbou’s gigantic robotic sons, Fritz & Pietr as she tries to find a way to save Professor Osamu. It girl once again shows her resourcefulness by…turning into a pillow, jumping out of a window, and then proceeding to get shot and captured (hey they can’t ALL be winners). Luckily she is saved by goats…seriously GOATS (who says superhero comics can’t be fun?).

Jamie S. Rich’s script as usual adds fresh action and genuine humor as we see It Girl fumble through her mission. Her banter with the villains and Prof. Osamu is crisp and funny. Nothing is really set up in this issue so all of the focus is on the mission itself, which adds a more linear storytelling experience where you don’t have to constantly keep things saved for later. The tense scenes have some nice dialogue & Night Runner is your typical “villain of the week”, with his predictable dialogue.

Mike Norton’s art continues to impress. Making the action scenes stand out and the couple spreads are amazing to look at as well. Mixed together with Allen Passalaqua’s bright and energetic colors, this is certainly one of the best looking titles I have been reading lately. We see some more fun things this issue, such as It Girl turning into a pillow, red lightning, & a bullet (yes a bullet), and the art team handles these transformations very well, making each one as unique as the last.

It Girl & The Atomics #8 is another fun ride from this creative team. With it’s fast paced action, spot on humor, colorful characters, and overall throwback feel. This is one comic that people should be reading.
