It Girl & The Atomics #10 Review

It Girl has succeeded in her 1st solo mission for Dr. Flem, so what is next for our spunky heroine?

Here is the summary from Image:

“TWEENAGE FBI” Part One
BETWEEN GEARS creator NATALIE NOURIGAT joins the Atomics team! Someone broke into Flem’s lab and stole a dangerous invention. It Girl picks up the crooks’ trail, only to discover it leads to a team of underage secret agents – though the real criminal mastermind is centuries older than all of them.

Professor Osamu’s device has been stolen form the lab and Dr. Flem sends It Girl to find the culprit. Her search leads her to a treehouse where she finds, who else, kids. The kids called the “Kimmandos” are actually working for everyone’s favorite clandestine agency Tri-eye, who sent them in to steal the device after It Girl refused to give it up the 1st time. However, when the device is stolen…again, It Girl forms a truce with the kid agents to catch the culprit; but what they find is an age old secret that could have dire consequences on the world (of course).

Once again Jamie S. Rich writes a script full of fun dialogue and humorous moments. The Kimmandos have a few lines for each other as well as It Girl and it is all gold. The Kimmandos themselves have unique personality quirks and act just like children are supposed to (which makes one wonder why Tri-eye would hire kids but i digress). How It Girl deals with the kids is funny as one is constantly hitting on her despite the wide age gap and her clear irritation with them. The reason the device was stolen was set up in a good way and the “villain” (don’t know if he is one yet) is actually pretty charming.

Handling art duties this issue is Natalie Nourigat and she does a pretty good job of both emulating Norton’s art as well as adding her own flair. Some of the panels look like something you would see in the comics of the Sunday paper, this is a nice touch as it continues It Girl a different feel from other comics out there. This issue even has some minor fanservice when It Girl passes a billboard that reads “Snap City Junior High. Go Turtles! Beat Gotham!” The Kimmandos have their own unique looks and Allen Passalaqua’s colors continue to be bright and vibrant.

“It Girl & The Atomics” #10 is another fun issue that sets up the next story arc well enough. The dialogue continues to be fresh and the art remains consistent for the most part, making the book a fun ride from start to finish. This is definitely a book to be read.
