Hoax Hunters #7 Review

Hoax Hunters is back with maybe its biggest issue yet. This series is quickly becoming one of Image’s best. I remember when it first started, a story with potential. Over the following couple of issues it found an identity with unique stories and great characters. This issue continues Haunchyville. Reasons to pick it up? Besides it being a solid continuation, it features a big plot twist, the Albino King, and plenty of the Murder character.

Here’s the official description from Image:

“HAUNCHYVILLE,” Part Two

With one of their own held captive by the albino king and his army of gnomes, the Hoax Hunters forge an uneasy alliance with Donovan and the Hoax Hunters Hunters to uncover the secrets of Haunchyville.

This one has Cadaver being attacked by the leader of the Gnomes, the Albino King. Meanwhile the Hoax Hunters Hunters (remember them? The name never gets old) are the ones being hunted now. There’s also a big revelation regarding Donovan. This issue really delivers some good stuff. The readers and the Hoax Hunters have been suspicious over Donovan for awhile now, so what happens with him here is quite interesting. I like how well the main characters communicate together. The scene with Regan telling Jack about her dinner with Donovan is an example of that. The Albino King gets some pretty cool page time. His dialogue is rather simple, we really don’t know exactly what his goal is. Sadly I foresee him getting pushed to the side in favor of the plot involving Donovan. However, the highlight might just be Murder. This guy has been kinda the mascot for this series. I mean, an astronaut suit with ravens? Here he get’s some very interesting page time with a fantastic panel of him in an apartment room.

The art is pretty strong throughout, I actually think it has improved. There are quite a few highlights, such as Murder and and Donovan later in the issue. The cover is pretty cool, showcasing the Albino King taking down Murder. (Ironically it’s kind of the opposite within.)

Overall, Part 2 of the Haunchyville doesn’t disappoint. Big things happen my fellow reader, big things. I’m really looking forward to seeing where the series goes.
