Guardians Of The Galaxy #2 Review

The Guardians race back to Earth to stop the Badoon from destroying London, but will our favorite space jockies be able to stop a full on invasion force?

Here is the summary from Marvel:

While London deals with the brutal Badoon invasion, the fate of the Guardians of the Galaxy may have been decided millions of miles away.

After saving Iron Man from a Badoon attack out in space, the Guardians race back to Earth in order to stop an invasion force from destroying London. Meanwhile on the other side of space, J-Son (Peter Quill’s father and king of Spartax) is holding an intergalctic pow wow with various big wigs across the universe. Including the All Mother of Asgard Freyja, Gladiator, the Kree Supreme Intelligence, The Brood Queen, Young Annihlus, & the king of the Badoon over the fate of Earth. Unsurprisingly their decree spells trouble for our Guardians.

Bendis once again crafts a story full of adventure and wit with this issue. The dialogue between the Guardians & Iron Man is both funny and strategic as they make their way through the Badoon’s spaceships (even if they are minus one huge tree named Groot). Drax does what his name claims and destroys, Gamroa gracefully yet brutally cuts through her enemies, and Rocket Racoon blast his way through the Badoon with what is probably my favorite line in the whole book “Blam! Murdered You!” (call me a simple man). Iron Man fits well as he and Quill coordinate on the outside. The meeting between the leaders is obviously text heavy but it doesn’t drag as they discuss just why Earth is a threat to them collectively, and J-Son begins to put his sinister plan into motion.

Steve McNiven once again does pencils but he’s not alone this issue as he is joined by Sara Pichelli. The two compliment each other well as they illustrate the exhilarating action scenes and the slower paced discussion ones. Their attention to detail, even with so much on the pages at one time is amazing. There is a scene where the heads of the galaxy have a hologram of Earth along with its various heroes and each is detailed enough to make out. Justin Ponsor’s colors are also easy on the eyes as well.

Guardians of The Galaxy #2 is another good helping of space adventure goodness. Keeping the references in there for vets as well as explaining it to newcomers. It set up some good plot pints which will no doubt pay off in later issues, and i highly recommend this series.
