Five Weapons #3 Review

Tyler Shainline has become public enemy number 1 at 5 Weapons Academy; just how long can the legendary prodigy survive without a weapon with everyone, including the teachers, gunning for him? Read on to find out.

Here is the summary from Image:

At the annual school festival, Tyler is caught in a battle between the Archery club and the Exotic weapons club, but a new threat emerges from outside the school that could blow his cover and ruin everything.

After narrowly escaping the wrath of the knife club, Tyler finds himself earning the ire of the stick club. After making out of a scuffle against the captain in one piece, he now finds himself in the crosshairs of the archery club along as the teachers of his school. The teacher of the exotic weapons club sends one of her best spies to get close to Shainline, but what happens when they spy becomes a double agent?

Unfortunately this is another one of those comics that I jumped on in the middle of a story line, but fortunately Jimmie Robinson does enough in this issue where I can kind of get the gist of what is going on. The characters (the main ones anyway) are pretty likeable and the idea of a school full of kids training to become highly skilled assassains is an interesting one. The clubs are varied (stick, knife, archery, exotic weapons, & guns) and each is full of colorful characters. Tyler Shainline is your typical prodigy, and has pretty big brass balls to go to a school full of assassains and NOT chose to use a weapon. This gives him that mysterious edge as we figure out his secret and why everyone is coming at him full force. Character interactions feel normal for the most part, I mean it’s just a bunch of kids in school, and despite the subject matter there isn’t an overabundance of blood of violence which makes this a nice family friendly title.

Despite a couple hiccups here and there, the art stays largely consistent. All the characters have their own unique looks and style’s, especially the teachers. The school grounds are huge and house a few different environments in them. One highlight of the book is the action scenes. Full of energy and a treat to watch unfold. Illustrating that Robinson can perform when he is pulling double duty.

5 Weapons #3 is an enjoyable book and one I recommend to pick up and read. It will be interesting to see how our intrepid young protagonist will survive this deadly academic
