Epic Kill #9 Review

Drafted to work for the Government in order to protect her uncle, Song has found a new ally in the form of the terrorist “Red Hand”. With this new found “ally”, will Song be able to turn the tables on her handlers and save her uncle?

Here is the summary from Image:

To infiltrate a government fortress and rescue her captive uncle, Song must tap into the darkest part of her soul; becoming even more lethal and cold-hearted. A sacrifice and mindset she may never return from!

Song returns from her mission and prepares for her final play against Paxton along with Red Hand. The two storm the compound and capture Paxton, forcing him to tell where Song’s uncle is. He divulges the info and Song finds herself in the tundra braving the cold while evading the soldiers hunting her. As she trudges on, she begins to lose hope & starts to realize that if the cold doesn’t get her…the soldiers will.

Raffaele Ienco sets up the climax of the story pretty well, giving more development for Song as she pulls out all the stops to rescue her uncle. Red Hand, isn’t used much in the story but his appearances are instrumental in Song’s raid on Paxton. The tundra setting is a pretty nice backdrop for the issue, detailing Song’s isolation and desperation to find her family and redemption.

The art stays mostly consistent throughout the story, and while it still isn’t my cup of Earl Grey, it does what it needs to; and there a few good action scenes in the story. The panel placement excellently complimenting the flow of Song’s movements as she fights off the soldiers in the city. The scenes in the tundra were as nice as well, the harsh elements helping contribute to the feel of the story.

Epic Kill #9 was an enjoyable issue and set-up a hell of a cliff hanger for the climax of the series in issue 10; I am anxious to see how the story of Song will end.

Side Note: The cover is awesome!
