Well guys, Diamond Comic Distributors, Inc. announced the comic book and graphic novel sales figures for the month of August.
Before we get to the nitty-gritty of which of the big two won, let’s first start with the news that all comic fans need to hear… This August compared to last August really makes the comic book market look good!

DC Entertainment was August’s leading publisher in Retail Dollars, leading Marvel Comics 33.32% to 32.42%. Meanwhile, Marvel Comics edged DC Entertainment on the Unit Market Share for the month, 37.18% to 37.12%.
And The Comic Chronicles had this to say about the totals:
Both this August and last August had five shipping weeks, and last August 31 saw the release of Justice League #1, the first of the DC relaunch titles. Nonetheless, the market handily beat last August’s mark with 900,000 more copies of the Top 300 comics ordered, an increase of 15%.
To sum up, we got another very solid and stable month fanboys and fangirls!
Overall DC barely won the month taking in 33.32% of August’s comic revenues, while Marvel brought-in 32.42%. IDW Publishing (5.88%) led the pack of the independent publishers, followed by Image Comics (5.75%), Dark Horse Comics (4.92%), Dynamite Entertainment (3.19%), Eaglemoss Publications Ltd (1.83%), Boom! Studios (1.52%) and assorted companies (11.16%), totaling about 34.25% of the comic sales in August. Marvel just barely held the highest volume of comics on the market putting out about 37.18%, followed closely by DC‘s 37.12%.
