Well look who’s getting a TV show. This morning Marvel.com announced that in a new deal with Netflix they will be creating four series and one mini series surrounding some of the most anticipated characters in the Marvel Universe. For years Marvel fans have been begging for Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Daredevil to be made (or remade) into feature films. I can’t be the only one who is more excited to see them in a TV show then I would if they were in a movie.

The series will follow each individual character and then turn into a Defenders miniseries where they all get together (like The 117592-79853-daredevil_superAvengers) to beat a common enemy. The executives behind this decision believe that Netflix offers more for their ideas then a show on a major network could.

“This deal is unparalleled in its scope and size, and reinforces our commitment to deliver Marvel’s brand, content and characters across all platforms of storytelling. Netflix offers an incredible platform for the kind of rich storytelling that is Marvel’s specialty. This serialized epic expands the narrative possibilities of on-demand television and gives fans the flexibility to immerse themselves how and when they want in what’s sure to be a thrilling and engaging adventure” -Alan Fine, President of Marvel Entertainment.

Do I smell a cross-over?

Shows like House of Cards and Orange is the New Black have shown us that Netflix will be a factor in producing quality shows from here on out. This deal proves that Marvel is willing to take some risks to give us the characters that we deserve. There have been no announcements about casting, scripts, or directors, so just accept that it may be a while before we hear more.

As a note to my fellow fans, let’s relax for a bit. We got what we wanted here, and soon enough we’ll be able to enjoy these heroes saving the world on our TV screens.
