Can a wisecracking webhead and a merc with a mouth successfully get along? Read on to find out.
The official description from Marvel:
The team-up you’ve all been waiting for: SPIDER-MAN & DEADPOOL take on HIGH SCHOOL!
• The devilishly dangerous (and handsome) Deadpool helps Spidey dodge bullets and bullies—but is there more to the mayhem than meets the eye?
• Kevin Shinick (Robot Chicken & MAD) and the awesomely talented Aaron Kuder present a Spider-Man story that will thrill and chill—and make you laugh at the same time! (It’s possible!)
The latest issue of Avenging Spider-Man is a hilarious installment with a dynamic team-up featuring Deadpool. Peter Parker‘s nightmarish version of his high school experience is running rampant in his head and the crazed-mercenary is sent it to help bring the situation to a fitting conclusion.
Kevin Shinick does a wonderful job crafting a rather creative and fun start to his two part story arc. His Deadpool and Spider-Man interact wonderfully, as their unique streaks of humor play off of each other just well enough to make this zany tale work. The only minor issue I have, is when the big reveal happens and we find out who the villain is it honestly made me scratch my head and wonder why they chose this random character. There just seemed to be literally no logic, but either way I will gladly be back next month to read how this one wraps-up.
Aaron Kuder handles the art, and his deformed but expressive characters fit the narrative perfectly. There are moments where there’s some honest beauty in his design and execution, as thin pencil strokes create a visceral visual experience that will either please or anger fans. Furthermore, the villains and the set pieces are top notch as their crazy structures and reactions easily work right along with the tale.
Avenging Spider-Man #12 is a very good comic book that’s worth your time and money. Recommended.
