Avenging Spider-Man #10 Review

Avenging Spider-Man and Captain Marvel continue their little duet, but is it worth buying?  Read on to find out.

The official description from Marvel:

BOSTON! Prepare to have your sox knocked off!

• A 50-ft tall red-headed madwoman versus an army of privatized mecha-police! Care to guess who’s caught in between?

• Spider-Man and Daring Damsel Carol Danvers, the new Captain Marvel!

In a heartfelt finale, our heroes must help Robyn to discover the kind of hero she can be despite the path ahead being chock-full of narrative road blocks.  From beginning to end this little tale will satisfy fans even as it treads familiar territory.  At the end of the day this comic book is a fun little romp, that takes plenty of ques from other sources while still yielding an impressive finish.

The overall script promotes a very solid story, that contains both serious and silly situations.  But once again, the star and singular focus of this piece is the friendship between these two superheroes.  Kelly Sue DeConnick absolutely nails the dialogue between Captain Marvel and Spider-Man, as the author gives readers not necessarily clever but solid wit.  It’s a good finish to a two-part story arc that will leave fans of both characters thoroughly satisfied.

Terry Dodson handles the art, offering up a style that truly speaks to the narrative context.  Simple but solid is the best way to describe the line work, as details are light but just enough that it never detracts from the visual experience.  If Marvel is looking for a candidate to handle the artistic duties in Avenging Spider-Man, I highly recommend they choose the talented Terry Dodson.

In Avenging Spider-Man #10 there’s a clear comfortable flow between both the creative team and the characters in the book.  The end result is an incredibly fun little romp in the Marvel universe, that’s not perfect but nonetheless succeeds at being a crowd-pleaser.  Because of that this latest issue comes recommended.
